Characteristics

· Our department has the earliest established respiratory team in China, which is made up of specialized staff members. These include intensivists, critical care nurses, respiratory therapists, rehabilitation therapists, clinical pharmacists, nutritionists and a pain management team to provide a strong support system, enabling the hospital to carry out major and difficult operations.

· The respiratory team are able to carry out specialized procedures such as bedside bronchoscopy, percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy, and programmed weaning of patients with difficult extubation.

· We have a cardiac critical care subspecialty team including cardiac rehabilitation, especially for cardiac surgical patients.

· An ICU-led MDT team provides a supportive network to improve patient outcomes in conditions such as: severe pancreatitis, severe respiratory problems and nutritional therapy for critical patients.

· Rapid response teams (RRTs) provide early intervention for patients who meet the early warning sign criteria. This effectively decreases the intubation and Code Blue rates from departments outside of the intensive care unit.

· A resuscitation center provides high quality care in resuscitation and post cardiac arrest. This includes targeted temperature management (TTM) for both out-of-hospital and in-hospital cardiac arrest patients.

· A professional training team for BLS, ACLS and ACLS-EP certification by the American heart association (AHA).
