The oncology department was founded in 1995, and has thrived prosperously under the supervision of experts from America and China. The number of patients discharged every month exceeds 600, with average hospitalization expenses among the lowest of major hospitals. Currently, there are 25 doctors in the department, including 8 attendings and 1 associate research fellow, 14 of which have a medical doctor degree, and 10 of whom have a medical master’s degree. Of our doctors, there are 2 doctoral supervisors and 4 master’s supervisors.

Our department is becoming the main educational base for oncology doctors in Zhejiang, having participated in over 60 global multicenter clinical trials, with 2 PI assistants for research and 1 doctor assistant for patient follow-up. We also cooperate with the pathology department in carrying out genetic diagnosis of over 20 molecular targets, including: Her-2, EGFR, EML4-ALK, C-Kit, cMET, k-Ras, BRAF and MSI. We join with Fudan University, Shanghai Cancer Center, to participate in multi-disciplinary team discussion each Wednesday. We have paid great attention and stand at the frontier in the field of individualized treatment of cancer patients. We have the most solid scientific research strength in the field of oncology in the province. Currently, we undertake 9 National Natural Science Foundation of China projects, 1 Provincial Science and Technology agency major project and 12 provincial science funds, which have provided a strong backbone for clinical application of tumor translational medicine. Our department was among the earliest to use radiofrequency ablation for tumor treatment, and is now is one of the quality-control centers of radiofrequency ablation treatment in Zhejiang. Our team is especially experienced in the treatment of difficult lung or hepatic lesions near the dome of the diaphragm.

Our notable research includes tremendous progress in the Provincial Science and Technology Agency major project "Design of novel radiofrequency ablation needle based on nanomaterial technology and its application in lung tumor treatment". Our head of department Professor and Doctor, Pan Hongming has contributed to the formulation of "Rules in the treatment of liver tumor by radiofrequency ablation in Zhejiang". Our patient ward was also among the earliest to pass the "Cancer Pain Control Standardized Treatment Example" ward evaluation.
