After graduating from the School of Stomatology of Zhejiang University (formerly the Department of Stomatology of Zhejiang Medical University) in 1998, Dr. HUANG Chengyi obtained a master's degree in stomatology from Zhejiang University School of Medicine. Then he studied orthodontics at Loma Linda University School of Dentistry in the United States.

He served as the Deputy Director of Dental Specialties and the Director of the Orthodontic Center. He has mainly engaged in clinical practice, scientific research and teaching work in orthodontics and temporomandibular joint disease. It includes orthodontic treatment for various types of malocclusion in children, adolescents and adults, sequential treatment methods combining fitting and orthodontic treatment for temporomandibular joint disease, non-surgical orthodontic treatment of severe bony protrusion, adenoid tonsil screening and early treatment in children and adolescents.

He has been responsible for or participated in multiple national and provincial medical research projects and published more than 10 papers in his field.
