Biographical sketch

Dr. LI Hequan graduated from Hangzhou Medical College in Clinical Medicine in July 1994, and obtained a Ph.D. in Oncology from Zhejiang University School of Medicine in July 2007. From 2007 to 2024, he worked in the Department of Respiratory Medicine at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University, and was promoted from Attending Physician to Consultant and then Senior Consultant. In 2025, he joined the Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital.

Since entering the field of respiratory medicine, Dr. Li has been engaged in both clinical practice and research, accumulating extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of common, complex, and critical respiratory diseases. His main research interests focus on immunology in respiratory diseases and he was among the earliest to study the role of Th17 cells in airway remodeling in asthma and the function of the TREM-2 serves as a negative immune regulator in lung cancer pathogenesis internationally. His scientific achievements include 18 SCI papers, one national graduate textbook, and co-translated one medical classic. He has presided over two projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and three projects with provincial-level grants, in addition to leading his team in a total of 10 competitive research projects. He holds one national invention patent and won the AstraZeneca Respiratory Research Award in 2010.
