Biographical sketch
Dr. FAN Shunwu is the Administrative Director of the SRRSH Department of Orthopedic Surgery, an expert enjoying special government allowances of the State Council, a leading health talent of Zhejiang Province, and the winner of the Chinese Doctor Award. Committed to the research of spinal diseases, he has engaged in clinical practice and basic research of orthopedics for 40 years. He was the first to report the application of minimally invasive lumbar fusion in the treatment of low back pain diseases such as intervertebral disc herniation, spinal stenosis, lumbar spondylolisthesis and lumbar instability in China. He innovated thoracolumbar anterior surgical technique for thoracolumbar fractures, spinal tuberculosis, spinal tumors, etc., reduces surgical trauma, shorts operation time, and improves surgical efficacy. The research results have been popularized and applied nationwide as an "orthopedic course". The technique of anterior inferior psoas major approach for oblique lateral lumbar fusion (OLIF) was originally proposed by him, and he developed the related exposure instrument. The relevant results were published in Nature and reprinted by the official media of the Ministry of Science and Technology, PRC. He led the writing of the first lumbar fusion surgery guideline in China. At present, the SRRSH Department of Orthopedic Surgery is the only OLIF technology training center in the Asia-Pacific region.
As the first or corresponding author, he has published more than 300 academic papers in the main journal of Nature, the sub-journal of CNS and other academic journals. He has led 8 national projects such as key research and development projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology and key projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation, and has won 5 first and second prizes of provincial Science and Technology Awards.
