Dr. CUI Hushan graduated with a bachelor's degree from the Medical College of Yanbian University in 1998 and obtained a master's degree from the Medical College of Yanbian University in 2004. He earned a doctoral degree from the School of Medicine, University of Toyama, Japan in 2007. From 2007 to 2008, he served as a postdoctoral researcher at Institute of Natural Medicine, University of Toyama, Japan. He specializes in vitreoretinal surgery, cataract surgery, diagnosis and treatment of uveitis, and retinal laser therapy. He has received the Rotary Yoneyama Scholarship (Japan), University of Toyama International Exchange Scholarship (Japan), and the University of Toyama Excellent Paper Award (Japan). He published 15 SCI-indexed papers including top journals, with 7 of them being the first author. He undertook six research projects including those funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (with three of them being led by the individual).
