The Belt and Road Programs

Crafting the "Belt and Road" Medical Response and Fully Building a Silk Road of Health

The construction of the "Belt and Road" has transformed from a Chinese proposition to an international practice, from an idea to action, and from a vision to reality, achieving palpable and substantive achievements. It has become an internationally cooperative platform that is widely welcomed. As the construction of the "Belt and Road" continues to deepen, SRRSH is also opening a new chapter in serving the joint construction of the "Belt and Road".

SRRSH "Belt and Road" Minimally Invasive Medicine Academy Program

  • Since 2020, the "Belt and Road" Minimally Invasive Medicine Academy has been established in collaboration with 22 Arab-speaking countries. For five consecutive years, it has implemented the "Belt and Road" Minimally Invasive Surgery Full English International Training Project globally on a regular basis. From 2020 to 2022, due to the epidemic, all training projects were conducted online.

In 2020, it offered English training courses for 20 urology doctors from the Middle East and Arab-speaking regions to enhance urology skills and signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Middle East and Arab-speaking Region Urology Association.

In 2021, it provided advanced online English training courses for 13 general surgery doctors from 10 medical institutions in the Philippines, Vietnam, and Malaysia in laparoscopic liver resection.

In 2022, it attracted 114 foreign doctor trainees from 25 medical institutions in eight countries across five continents to participate in the online English training project on laparoscopic liver and pancreatic minimally invasive surgery. This training also initiated an African session, providing minimally invasive surgery academic lectures and live surgery explanations for more than 50 surgical system doctor trainees from China's aid to Mali Hospital. After the meeting, the Malian doctor team responded vigorously, and the training project was highly recognized and unanimously commended.

  • In 2023, the hospital successfully held offline international training at the Alaer Campus in Xinjiang, attracting 21 foreign doctor trainees from 10 countries in Central Asia and the Middle East.

In 2024, the hospital held the 2024 Minimally Invasive Surgery West Lake Conference and Minimally Invasive Surgery "Belt and Road" Training Session. This event invited 62 experts, industry elites, and foreign trainees in the field of minimally invasive surgery from 19 countries and 11 institutions to participate in offline training. Through full English theoretical teaching, remote surgery live demonstrations, and round-table discussions, it presented the hospital's minimally invasive surgery in laparoscopic liver and pancreatic surgery and the internationally pioneering stent-based intestinal anastomosis, and other cutting-edge technologies and innovations to trainees at home and abroad. At the same time, the Alaer Campus in Xinjiang also held the founding conference of the Minimally Invasive Surgery Committee of the Corps Physicians Association and the"Belt and Road" Minimally Invasive Surgery International Seminar.

Cooperation with University of Malaya Medical Center (UMMC)

On November 21, 2023, at the third Zhejiang Province "Belt and Road" Construction Promotion Conference, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between SRRSH and UMMC. The "China and Malaysia Medical Personnel Exchange and Joint Training" project was selected as one of the 20 major cooperation projects in Zhejiang Province's "Belt and Road"construction.

Both institutions have carried out cooperation on a broader scale, in areas including molecular pathology, minimally invasive medical discipline construction, clinical remote consultation, innovative transitional medicine, and joint talent training.

Other Projects and Cooperation

  • The golden card of SRRSH, minimally invasive surgery, has also drawn a delegation of government officials from Nigeria to visit for exchange and discussion. SRRSH and the delegation looked forward to closer cooperation in fields such as minimally invasive medicine, talent training, robotics techniques training, etc.

Brazil, as an enthusiastic responder to the "Belt and Road" initiative, maintains a close and fruitful cooperative bond with China in the field of health and healthcare. In January 2024, government officials from the state of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, along with a delegation of five, visited the hospital for exchange and discussion. During the visit, the delegation sincerely praised the efficient use of resources in the wards and its rapid conversion capability in both peaceful and war times, and sincerely hoped that Brazilian medical institutions could widely learn and introduce the dual-utilization of clinical and epidemic wards design in the future.

In December, the Alaer Campus in Xinjiang held the first "Belt and Road" Traditional Chinese Medicine International Academic Exchange Meeting, with the participation of five experts and professors from Brazil, along with many traditional Chinese medicine medical workers in Xinjiang and the Corps, polishing the international golden card of traditional Chinese medicine culture, and enabling traditional Chinese medicine services to benefit more people in countries and regions participating in the "Belt and Road" construction.
