Fellowship Traning Programs

Master Surgical Innovation and Clinical Excellence

Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital (SRRSH) invites medical professionals worldwide to apply for our structured Fellowship Programs. Designed to foster deep clinical learning and surgical mastery, these programs offer immersive experiences under the guidance of our expert faculty across multiple pioneering specialties.

  • Gain a focused overview of advanced medical practice and hospital management at SRRSH. This flexible program, from 1 week to less than 3 months, allows you to observe clinical workflows, surgical procedures, and ward rounds in a “hands-off” setting. It is ideal for physicians seeking to understand China’s healthcare system, specific discipline advancements, or the renowned “Shaw Model” of hospital management without engaging in direct patient care.

  • Deepen your specialized surgical skills through a supervised, practical training experience. This long-term fellowship (3 months to 1 year) is designed for attending physicians or senior residents who have completed basic training. As a “hands-on” fellow, you will participate in specific clinical procedures under the direct supervision and authorization of our senior experts, following the scope defined by a temporary Chinese medical practice license. This program aims to significantly enhance your operative capabilities within your chosen subspecialty.

  • Master the future of minimally invasive surgery through our intensive 6-month fellowship. Aimed at experienced surgeons (with 5+ years of practice), this program offers subspecialty training in robotic procedures for hepatobiliary-pancreatic, gastrointestinal, urological, gynecological, and thoracic surgery. Fellows will integrate into our high-volume Robotic Surgery Center, learning through a combination of supervised clinical involvement, simulation, and academic discussion, with a quota of fewer than 2 fellows per department per session to ensure personalized training.

Questions & Answers

    A:
We prefer to receive it six months ahead of the time you are applying. Also, our acceptance policy is first come, first served.
  • Q:
What is your minimal educational requirement for taking a medical elective at SRRSH?
    A:
We only take medical students in the final two years of medical school. Other healthcare students follow the same principle and should be near the end of their degree.
  • Q:
Where is the Center for International Collaboration in SRRSH?
    A:
It is on Floor 4, Tower VII, Qingchun Campus.
  • Q:
May I arrive at SRRSH during the weekend?
    A:
It is our recommendation that you plan to arrive in Hangzhou during the week, as there will be no staff working in the Center for International Collaboration during the weekend.
  • Q:
How can I get to SRRSH after I arrive at the airport?
    A:
If you arrive by air at the Xiaoshan International Airport in Hangzhou, please take the metro to the hospital. Or you can also take a taxi directly from the airport, but it will be more expensive. If you arrive by air at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport in Shanghai, it will be most economical and easy to take the high-speed railway from Shanghai to Hangzhou, and then take a taxi or metro to the hospital.
  • Q:
How do I check in when I arrive at the SRRSH campus?
    A:
Normally, Mrs. Amy Wang, the program manager, will meet you at the Center for International Collaboration (Qingchun Campus, Tower VII, Floor 4) or will come to meet you wherever you are on the SRRSH campus, and then accompany you to Tower VII. Her phone number is 0571-8600 8867 or 188 6715 3204. Please feel free to call her directly with the help of one of the staff members. (In order to do this, please borrow a cell phone from one of the friendly medical staff members so that you can contact her.)

  • Q:
Regarding traveling during the weekends, is it safe and easy for foreign women to travel to interesting places alone?
    A:
It is very popular for foreigners to travel within Hangzhou by themselves, both male and female, as well as to the surrounding regions, as the city is known as an international tourist city. Hangzhou also has a reputation as an extremely safe city. Detailed arrangements and travel information can be obtained upon request.
  • Q:

    A:
This is completely up to you. If you would like to purchase health insurance coverage for your stay here, please feel free to do so.
