Residency Programs for International Medical Graduates

SRRSH is dedicated to continuously exploring and innovating in resident training, gradually developing a model that blends international perspectives with local expertise. As a leading tertiary-level comprehensive hospital, we were honored to become one of the first national residency training bases in 2014. We have established 22 specialty training programs, covering areas such as internal medicine, surgery, and general practice. Among these, we are proud to have five key residency training programs in internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, rehabilitation, and general practice. The program typically ranges 3 years depending on the need with programs offered at SRRSH. For those who complete their residency program and fulfill the training plan according to regulations, we will award the "SRRSH Certificate".

We provide a structured, tiered training program that ensures systematic and practical learning through foundational and specialized instruction in each department. Additionally, we are proud to have a dedicated mentorship team and a regular evaluation system to support your growth and development.

The basic requirements for foreign graduates to participate in our residency program are as follows:

Overall Requirements:

(1)Language proficiency: We kindly request that foreign doctors possess a good level of Mandarin/Chinese communication skills to fully understand the training content and effectively communicate with patients. This will enable them to actively engage in clinical work and gain valuable hands-on experience.

(2)Educational degree: A Medical bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant medical field is required.

(3)Clinical experience: We recommend that applicants have gained some clinical practical experience during their previous medical education, which will help them adapt to the fast-paced nature of clinical work and focus on practical training.

(4)Medical practice requirements: To ensure compliance with Chinese laws and policies, foreign applicants must obtain the necessary work permits, either have the Chinese government issued medical practice licenses, or health bureau certificated temporary medical licenses before joining the training program.

Questions & Answers

    A:
We prefer to receive it six months ahead of the time you are applying. Also, our acceptance policy is first come, first served.
  • Q:
What is your minimal educational requirement for taking a medical elective at SRRSH?
    A:
We only take medical students in the final two years of medical school. Other healthcare students follow the same principle and should be near the end of their degree.
  • Q:
Where is the Center for International Collaboration in SRRSH?
    A:
It is on Floor 4, Tower VII, Qingchun Campus.
  • Q:
May I arrive at SRRSH during the weekend?
    A:
It is our recommendation that you plan to arrive in Hangzhou during the week, as there will be no staff working in the Center for International Collaboration during the weekend.
  • Q:
How can I get to SRRSH after I arrive at the airport?
    A:
If you arrive by air at the Xiaoshan International Airport in Hangzhou, please take the metro to the hospital. Or you can also take a taxi directly from the airport, but it will be more expensive. If you arrive by air at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport in Shanghai, it will be most economical and easy to take the high-speed railway from Shanghai to Hangzhou, and then take a taxi or metro to the hospital.
  • Q:

    A:
Normally, Mrs. Amy Wang, the program manager, will meet you at the Center for International Collaboration (Qingchun Campus, Tower VII, Floor 4) or will come to meet you wherever you are on the SRRSH campus, and then accompany you to Tower VII. Her phone number is 0571-8600 8867 or 188 6715 3204. Please feel free to call her directly with the help of one of the staff members. (In order to do this, please borrow a cell phone from one of the friendly medical staff members so that you can contact her.)

  • Q:
Regarding traveling during the weekends, is it safe and easy for foreign women to travel to interesting places alone?
    A:
It is very popular for foreigners to travel within Hangzhou by themselves, both male and female, as well as to the surrounding regions, as the city is known as an international tourist city. Hangzhou also has a reputation as an extremely safe city. Detailed arrangements and travel information can be obtained upon request.
  • Q:

    A:
This is completely up to you. If you would like to purchase health insurance coverage for your stay here, please feel free to do so.
  • Q:
May I bring my relative/friend/spouse to stay with me while I study at SRRSH?
    A:
