SRRSH launches China’s first provincial Healthy Weight Guidance Center

On April 10, 2025, Zhejiang Healthy Weight Guidance Center was put into operation at Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital (SRRSH), affiliated with Zhejiang University School of Medicine, powering science-based weight management with a one-stop “Zhejiang proposal”.
Zhejiang Health Weight Guidance Center’s major responsibilities include implement national and provincial policies on weight management, support the establishment and professional development of municipal and county-level healthy weight guidance institutions, public education, and professional training.
Leading the charge is Prof. Cai Xiujun, Director of the Center and President of the hospital, who emphasized that SRRSH has been committed to one-stop weight management solutions, combining multidisciplinary expertise with personalized care.
As Dr. Cai put it, SRRSH’s Weight and Metabolic Surgery Center, established in 2021, has grown into Zhejiang’s largest weight management hub—the only one with dedicated bariatric wards. Making full use of our MDT advantages, a three-tier network: a provincial model → city level branches → community monitors system will roll out, covering prevention, precise intervention, and whole process management.
At the event, Prof. Yu Hong, Deputy Director of the Zhejiang Healthy Weight Guidance Center and Vice President of SSRRSH issued the Guideline for Establishing Medical Institutional Weight Management Centers.
The guideline provide a multidisciplinary framework for healthcare institutions to standardize and improve weight management services. Key requirements include:
Secondary and tertiary hospitals must establish dedicated weight management clinics, integrating resources from endocrinology, traditional Chinese medicine, clinical nutrition, bariatric and metabolic surgery, general practice, mental health, rehabilitation medicine, cardiology, gastroenterology, and pediatrics to form institutional weight management centers.
These centers will coordinate cross-departmental collaboration to deliver comprehensive weight management services, ultimately advancing chronic disease prevention through weight intervention.
Primary care institutions should launch weight management clinics supported by family doctor teams (physicians, nurses, dietitians), offering three-tiered prevention (underweight, overweight, obesity) and basic healthcare services for local residents.
Located in the Grand Canal Campus (4F, Area C), the Zhejiang Healthy Weight Guidance Center features 14 specialized clinics, a spacious waiting area, and dedicated nurses for screenings and collecting information—all under one roof. The one-stop MDT joint clinic here, supported by endocrinology, general practice, clinical nutrition, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and bariatric and metabolic surgery, offers comprehensive, individualized weight management plans.
