The SRRSH Department of Urology was established in 1994. In the past 30 years, under the leadership of Dr. LI Xinde, Dr. ZHANG Zhigen and Dr. LI Gonghui, the department has developed rapidly, and its comprehensive strength ranks among the best in Zhejiang Province, visits volume and technical strength rank among the forefront in China. The Urology department has 18 medical teams and 62 doctors now, including 13 chief physicians and 10 deputy chief physicians. There are 4 doctoral supervisors and 8 master’s supervisors. And the department performs more than 10,000 inpatient operations a year, about 4,000 day surgery a year, with an average hospital days of 3.91.

Minimally invasive surgery is the highlight of the department. Since 1995, our department has taken the lead in carrying out laparoscopic urological surgery in Zhejiang province, including the first case of laparoscopic ureterolithotomy in September 1999 and the first case of laparoscopic nephrectomy in December 1999. In 2015, the department started robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery, and there are more than 1,000 robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery performed every year. The department has been at the forefront of the country for many years. Perineal and transperitoneal single-port robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy, robot-assisted laparoscopic removal of cancerous thrombus of vena cava (grade III and IV), buccal mucosa ureteroplasty, renal vein transposition, robot-assisted laparoscopic total pelvic organ resection, PCNL with lateral position, complete prone nephroscopy combined with ureteroscopy lithotripsy, and microscopic replantation of penis amputation have become the features and highlights of the SRRSH Department of Urology.

The department takes on 24 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and 4 key research and development projects in Zhejiang Province. The research results have been published in the forms of international high-level and high-quality academic papers. These results have been published in the Journal of Urology, Advanced Functional Materials, Molecular Cancer and other internationally renowned journals.
