The SRRSH Department of General Practice was established in 1999. It stands as one of the pioneering clinical, educational, and research-integrated departments within a prestigious hospital in China. Renowned for its expertise in outpatient clinics, inpatient care, chronic disease management, and health management services, the department spearheads discipline development nationwide. Our offerings encompass outpatient clinics, inpatient care, and a state-of-the-art health promotion center. We have introduced an innovative diagnosis and treatment model that emphasizes "first visit in general practice clinics, contract lifecycle management, specialized treatment for specific diseases, and multi-disciplinary collaboration". Our comprehensive, continuous clinical approach to general practice fosters holistic health management for both common and chronic ailments. As a pivotal link in the hierarchical medical system, we facilitate seamless consultations and bidirectional referrals between comprehensive hospitals and community health services.

Within the realm of education, we maintain a robust general practice teaching and research section, overseeing medical school curricula, standardized resident physician training programs, and continuous education initiatives. The Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital Health Promotion Center, established as Zhejiang's foremost examination hub, offers premium health management, integrating high-quality clinical resources with modern American health management paradigms to deliver a comprehensive, 'whole-person, full-course' health promotion service. This integration has nurtured a formidable team of general practitioners and health managers, all of whom have undergone rigorous professional training.

The General Practice Department boasts exceptional achievements, leading the way academically, educationally, and clinically. It holds numerous prestigious accolades, including being a pioneer national training base for general practice residency, ranking among China's top ten such bases, serving as a future health talent incubator, and being a key discipline in Zhejiang Province. It also serves as the General Practice Quality Control Center for Standardized Resident Physician Training, the Technical Guidance Center for General Practice in Zhejiang, and is responsible for the General Practice degree program at Zhejiang University. In 2010, we collaborated with Genesys Medical Center of Michigan State University to establish a China-US clinical training base. In 2016, we became the sole Chinese base to receive educational accreditation from the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP). In 2019, we were honored as an Advanced Unit for Health Science Popularization and Education (among the first batch nationally). In the 2020 Fudan University rankings, our General Practice Department secured second place in China for both specialty reputation and comprehensive specialty performance.

The department has published over 100 academic papers, including more than 60 SCI papers. It has edited or co-edited 9 national "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" and "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" textbooks published by the People's Medical Publishing House, and participated in the compilation of 11 other textbooks. It has won the first prize of Zhejiang Province Teaching Achievement Award, the second prize of Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, and second and third prizes of Medical and Health Science and Technology Award of Zhejiang Province. The department has created a new international general practice talent training system in conjunction with clinical and teaching, which has been highly recognized by national administrative departments and academic peers.

It has been the only unit in China invited twice to introduce the standardized training model for general practice resident physicians nationwide. Its innovative teaching model has won awards such as the "First Prize of Zhejiang University Teaching Achievement," "First Prize of Department of Education Teaching Achievement of Zhejiang Province " and "Second Prize Science and Technology Progress Award of Zhejiang Province ". In 2019, it was awarded as an Advanced Unit for Health Education (one of the first batch nationally). In the 2020 Fudan University ranking, the General Practice Department of Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital ranked Second in the country in terms of specialty reputation and comprehensive specialty.
