One Registration, Multidisciplinary Care | Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital's Shaoxing Campus Opens Routine MDT Clinic

April.16,2026

“It would normally take me several days and multiple appointments to see different specialists—if I could even get appointments at all. But this time, I was able to see all of them in one go.” Mr. Li (pseudonym) was full of praise. “And having three experts discuss my case face-to-face, no messages relayed back and forth. It really puts my mind at ease.”

Recently, the Shaoxing campus of Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, affiliated with Zhejiang University School of Medicine successfully conducted a multidisciplinary team (MDT) consultation for a complex case of post-surgery recurrence of liver cancer. Different from the traditional single-discipline model, the MDT brought together three specialists: Senior Consultant Dr. Li Zheyong (General Surgery), Senior Consultant Dr. Zheng Weiliang (Radiology/Interventional Oncology), and Consultant Dr. Hu Hong (Medical Oncology). Together, they developed a personalized systemic treatment strategy for Mr Li’s advanced liver cancer—a vivid illustration of the “patient-centered” approach to precision medicine.

When facing complex diseases, patients and families often find themselves shuttling between specialties, seeing one specialist after another, bogged down by registrations and consultations. Is there a way to break down the barriers between departments, see all needed specialists with just one registration, and get one-stop resolution of complex problems?

The MDT clinic at SRRSH offers a positive answer. MDT is not a simple consultation. It is one-stop precision care. Specialists from various fields convene at the same time and place, drawing on their respective expertise to conduct a full-dimensional, collaborative evaluation, ultimately crafting the most optimized treatment plan for the patient.

At the Shaoxing Campus, the MDT clinic has been operating as a routine service since the campus opened. Patients with relevant needs can, following an assessment and recommendation by an outpatient physician, “customize” an MDT expert group tailored to their condition.

Recently, the Shaoxing Campus rolled out an online registration pathway for MDT appointments, initially offering direct booking for three multidisciplinary clinics: colorectal cancer, pulmonary nodules, and gastric cancer. Patients in need no longer need to travel to the hospital. They can schedule their appointment directly through SRRSH’s official WeChat service account.

Through its “one registration, multiple specialists, joint decision-making” model, the MDT clinic effectively reduces the time and logistical burden for patients with complex conditions, truly realizing the principle of “patient still, experts in motion.” It brings more precise, efficient, and compassionate medical care to patients in Shaoxing and the surrounding areas.
