Ophthalmology
Overview
The Department of Ophthalmology of SRRSH was established by Professor YAO Yufeng in 1998. Over more than two decades of development, it has evolved into a comprehensive clinical medical center integrating medical care, scientific research, and education. It hosts the Technical Guidance Center for Diagnosis and Treatment of Corneal Diseases of Zhejiang Province and the Key Laboratory for Corneal Diseases Research of Zhejiang Province. The department is recognized as a key innovative discipline in Zhejiang Province and serves as the chairman unit for the Ophthalmology Branch of the Zhejiang Medical Doctors Association.
The department has a team of 33 ophthalmologists, including 11 attending doctors, forming a well-structured technical team with a complete set of subspecialties. Among these, the leading specialties include corneal disease, refractive surgery, refractive cataract surgery, and vitreoretinal diseases. The department covers all categories of ophthalmic diseases and has remarkable technical strength and advanced equipment in areas such as corneal diseases, presbyopia correction, laser vision correction, high myopia correction, astigmatism correction, cataracts, vitreoretinal diseases, glaucoma, orbital diseases, and oculoplastics. It provides comprehensive services for the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases and vision correction, making it one of the most powerful comprehensive ophthalmology departments in Zhejiang province.
Technical advantages
Corneal Diseases: Breakthroughs have been made in corneal transplantation, eye burns, and ocular infections. A new technique for deep lamellar corneal transplantation with full graft bed preservation has been established, leading the way in femtosecond-assisted corneal transplantation. New surgical methods for treating eye burns have been developed. New technologies for the treatment of severe fungal keratitis have been established, including new methods for fungal species identification, drug sensitivity testing, and medication treatments. The department also utilizes nucleic acid testing techniques for eight types of viruses and artificial intelligence-assisted diagnosis for corneal diseases to treat various corneal conditions, placing its academic and clinical levels at the forefront internationally.
Refractive Surgery: The department pioneered the concept of crystalline refractive surgery. It was among the first in China to perform trifocal lens implantation to treat both cataract and presbyopia, and it is the first training center for trifocal lens presbyopia surgery. It leads the comprehensive correction of myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia. It was also one of the earliest centers in China to perform femtosecond laser vision correction for myopia and astigmatism, using ICL V4c implantation for the correction of myopia and astigmatism.
Cataract: Among the earliest in China to propose and implement refractive cataract surgery and integrated treatment for cataracts and presbyopia, regularly performs phacoemulsification with small incisions, foldable intraocular lens (IOL) implantation, toric IOL implantation, trifocal IOL implantation, extended depth of focus IOLs, implantation of phakic IOLs for myopia and astigmatism, implantation of capsular tension rings for subluxated lenses, and suspension lens implantation. It also conducts complex surgeries such as combined anterior segment phacoemulsification and posterior segment vitrectomy in conjunction with corneal transplantation, glaucoma, and vitrectomy procedures.
Vitreoretinal Diseases: This specialty is at the forefront domestically, especially in the treatment of diabetic retinopathy, macular diseases such as macular holes and epiretinal membranes, retinal vein occlusions, complex retinal detachments, severe ocular trauma, and other difficult-to-treat retinal conditions. Equipped with the most advanced fundus examination instruments and surgical devices, the department routinely performs external and internal fundus surgeries, minimally invasive vitreoretinal surgeries, intravitreal injections, and retinal photocoagulation. It is one of the first hospitals in Zhejiang Province to use the world's most advanced anti-VEGF drugs and steroid implants for the treatment of age-related macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusions, diabetic macular edema, choroidal neovascularization, and ischemic retinopathies, significantly improving visual outcomes for these patients. Collaborating with domestic peers, it has rich clinical experience and advanced treatment techniques in hereditary vitreoretinal diseases, neuro-ophthalmology, and uveitis.
Orbital Diseases and Oculoplastics: The department routinely performs various types of eyelid plastic surgeries and treatments for orbital diseases and strabismus-related conditions. Utilizing advanced technology, personalized treatment plans are formulated with minimally invasive surgical techniques to minimize trauma and accelerate healing. Services cover a wide range, from eyelid repair to aesthetic improvements, enhancing patient appearance and vision function, including but not limited to double eyelid surgery, ptosis correction, blepharoptosis, eyelid laxity, epicanthal fold, dermatochalasis, trichiasis, eyelid tumors, orbital tumors, eyelid spasm, and muscle adjustments.
