The "Belt and Road" Medical Talent Training Alliance was established under the leadership of the National Health Commission Health Human Resources Development Center. It aims to strengthen the exchange and collaboration between China and the countries along the "Belt and Road", involving medical schools, medical institutions, research institutes, and related organizations. Up to now, more than 200 organizations around the world have joined this alliance. Among them, Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital (SRRSH), affiliated with Zhejiang University School of Medicine is the vice chairman unit of the "Belt and Road" Medical Talent Training Alliance, and President Cai Xiujun is the vice chairman of the Alliance's Surgical Technology Development Committee. The hospital will give full play to its unique advantages in minimally invasive medicine and internationalization, and carry out clinical technical training in English for the alliance's domestic and foreign cooperative institutions.

In 2021, SRRSH became the first medical organization in China to undertake the “Belt and Road” minimally invasive liver surgery online training project and it will carry out the training program again. The highlights of the 2023 training program are the seamless integration of live-streaming surgery, academic seminars, and immersive simulation skills training. The program combines theory with practice to comprehensively showcase the new techniques and developments in laparoscopic liver and pancreatic surgery, as well as stent-assisted intestinal anastomosis and intestinal diversion surgery at SRRSH to experts both domestically and internationally.
