■ SRRSH's General Surgery Specialty is designated as a national level Clinical Key Specialty.
■ The department is dedicated to furthering research and application of new techniques in minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Cai Xiujun,a famous surgeon in Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery, is the discipline's director. In 2009, he headed his team and won a National Prize in Advancements in Science and Technology, for their research entitled “Clinic Research and Application of Laparoscopic Technique in Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery” .
■ Dr. Cai Xiujun created a new technique of laparoscopic selective inflow occlusion to control intraoperative blood loss in laparoscopic hepatectomy, and led his team in completing over 800 cases of laparoscopic hepatectomy, which is the largest group in the world. He also successfully completed the first two cases of laparoscopic right hemihepatectomy in China. Furthermore, he pioneered and established the national guideline of laparoscopic hepatectomy which made the difficult liver resection safer and more widely used. Dr. Cai’s monograph Laparoscopic Hepatectomy has been published by Springer.
