Overview

The Department of Cardiology was one of the first core departments founded in 1994 at Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital. It has been developed into an integrated professional team, providing medical care service, teaching and training, and scientific research, under the leadership of Prof. Guosheng FU.

 

Based in Zhejiang area, the department has been reputed to be one of the best for cardiac disease treatment over the past 20 years, and is also renowned as one of the most important cardiovascular intervention training in China.

 

At present, there are 12 chief physicians, 15 associate chief physicians and 48 staff members with doctor and post-doctor degrees in the department, and six sub specialties have been set up to complement the department, including chest pain group, structural heart disease group, cardiovascular imaging group, electrical physiological and pacing group, heart failure group, cardiomyopathy group, sudden cardiac death prevention group, and clinical trial group. The Department has 78 beds on Qingchun campus, with 20 beds for intensive care use, and 85 beds on Qiantang campus. The department has 8 cardiac catheter labs, one of which is a hybrid catheter lab. Its annual interventional procedures have been at the forefront of Zhejiang Province for many years.

[Medical Care Service]

1. Diagnosis and treatment of coronary heart disease by percutaneous coronary intervention;

 

2. Diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmia by radio frequency ablation and pacemaker implantation;

 

3. Diagnosis and treatment of valvular heart disease by percutaneous intervention;

 

4. Diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart disease by percutaneous canopy closure;

 

5. Cardiomyopathy diagnosis and treatment.


[Research Directions]

1. Research and development of innovative cardiovascular interventional devices, such as absorbable stents, drug-coated balloons etc.

 

2. Clinical and innovative research on interventional therapy for complex coronary heart disease and arrhythmia.

 

3. Basic and clinical research on coronary heart disease, atrial fibrillation, hypertrophic heart disease, myocardial amyloidosis disease etc.


[Research Achievement]

The department has been rewarded with a number of grants from both the National Natural Science Foundation and the Provincial Natural Science Foundation over the past 20 years. More than eighty academic papers have been published in the world-class journals including Circulation, Circulation Research, JACC , Hypertension, etc. 


[International Exchange and Cooperation]

The department keeps a close relationship with Oklahoma University Heart Rhythm Center, Loma Linda University Medical Center and Kiel University Hospital. The department will send two members at least overseas as visiting scholars each year.
