Overview

The department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery of Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, founded in 1994, is a comprehensive department combining medical treatment, teaching and scientific research, supported by an integrated professional team.  Thanks to the platform of Zhejiang University and the direct cooperation with Loma Linda University Medical Center in the United States, it has set up one center and three clinical sub-professional groups, and has become a well-known large-scale healthcare organization in Zhejiang Province. The department now has 35 staff members. Nearly half of the doctors have studied in European and American countries. The department is well-structured in terms of team members’ academic achievments, fueld further by strong technical support. With increasing momentum, it endeavours to become a first-class center integrating medical treatment, teaching and scientific research at home and a renowned one abroad.

Sino-American Joint Head, Neck and maxillofacial Tumor Center:

As a Sino-American joint head and a Neck and maxillofacial tumor center, we provide comprehensive treatment based on surgical treatment and repair for patients with middle-advanced head, neck, oral and maxillofacial tumors and upper laryngopharyngeal and esophageal mediastinum tumors.

Larynogology, head and neck surgery

 The voice clinic can provide voice training, vocal cord microsurgery and other treatment for patients with voice diseases. For the atrophy of vocal cords caused by various reasons, fat injection of vocal cords can be given to alleviate hoarseness.

The snoring clinic of our department can provide medical services for various kinds of snoring patients every year. For patients with moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea, especially those who have poor weight control and cannot tolerate ventilator therapy, we offer personalized surgical options.

Rhinology

Patients can receive accurate assessment and personalized treatment at the naso-sinusitis clinic. The clinic also has a special allergic rhinitis clinic targeted at difficult allergic rhinitis  with the aid of desensitization treatment and nerve block surgery treatment.

We routinely carry out minimally invasive nasal endoscopic sinus and skull base surgery to provide comprehensive treatment for patients with various nasal masses and sinusitis. At the same time for nose and eye related diseases, we can also offer patients surgical treatment.

Otology

Deafness clinic: we provide patients with hearing loss caused by various reasons with medical services, including finding the cause of hearing loss, evaluating the degree of hearing loss, and subsequently formulating individualized treatment plans.

Tinnitus clinic: we offer patients with tinnitus caused by various causes medical services, including finding the cause and subsequently formulating individualized treatment plans.

Vertigo clinic: we provide medical services for patients with tinnitus caused by various reasons, including BBPV, Meniere's disease, labyrinthitis, vestibular neuritis, vestibular migraine, etc. In the follow-up, we can provide inner ear photography, vestibular function and other examinations, and also comprehensive treatment such as drug treatment, otolith reduction, vestibular function reduction and so on.

For almost all kinds of otitis media patients, we can provide individualized surgical treatment, including tympanic cannulation, tympanoplasty, radical mastoidectomy, and artificial ossicle hearing reconstruction.

In recent years, we have started to carried out cochlear implantation, and the technology is gradually maturing.

Education and training

Our department is a standardized residency training base of Zhejiang Province as well as a national base.

Every year, the department holds nasal cranial basic-temporal bone learning classes, laryngeal cancer hypopharyngeal cancer flap learning classes and Sino-American joint maxillofacial head and neck tumor learning classes, which are deeply loved and praised by the majority of doctors in the province. Also, the department has strived to make  medical resouces more accessible to grassroots community and has supported the discipline development of primary hospitals.
