Overview

The Department of Thoracic Surgery of Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital is one of the training bases for resident physicians in the Department of Thoracic Surgery of the Ministry of Health, with a strong technical force. Our department has long-term cooperation with Loma Linda University in the United States, Monash Medical Center in Australia, Cabrini Medical Group, etc., and maintains academic exchanges and personnel exchanges with medical centers in the United States, Australia, Canada and other countries. Doctors of our department have studied and taken exchange visits in the United States, Canada, Germany, Saudi Arabia and other countries and regions. Keeping with international diagnosis and treatment standards to treat every patient reasonably, we are committed to offering world-class, high-quality, and comprehensive medical services.

The Department of Thoracic Surgery is characterized by minimally invasive technology and outstanding clinical comprehensive diagnosis and treatment capabilities. We boast the most advanced high-definition and 3D thoracoscopy equipment and Da Vinci robotic surgery system. We have made remarkable achievements in terms of relevant minimally invasive surgery, diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary nodules, and standardized treatment of lung cancer, esophageal cancer, mediastinal tumor, pneumothorax, and hand hyperhidrosis. Our Department enjoys a high reputation in the academic world and is well-received by patients. We perform more than 4,000 thoracic surgeries every year, of which more than 95% are minimally invasive.

[Medical Care Service]

1. China Thoracic Surgery ERAS Demonstration Project - Helping patients to accelerate postoperative recovery, reduce medical costs and obtain a good medical experience.

2. Minimally invasive thoracic surgery: pulmonary nodule resection, lung cancer radical resection, esophagectomy for benign and malignant tumors, thymectomy, thoracic deformity correction, achalasia correction, pneumothorax and bullae resection, and sympathectomy for hand hyperhidrosis.

3. Standardized treatment for lung cancer: various anatomical lung resection techniques such as segmentectomy, lobectomy and combined lobectomy, pneumonectomy, lobe sleeve resection, carinaplasty and intrapericardial pneumonectomy, etc. In addition, the department actively explores adjuvant chemotherapy and neoadjuvant chemotherapy for lung cancer and has accumulated rich experience.

4. Standardized treatment for esophageal cancer: The mastered "total endoscopic radical esophagectomy" is at the international and domestic leading level.

1. Early assessment and minimally invasive treatment of small pulmonary nodules;

2. Standardized treatment of lung cancer;

3. Minimally invasive surgical treatment of benign and malignant diseases such as esophagus, thymus, mediastinum and chest wall;

4. Individualized treatment of chest trauma;

5. Standardized treatment of hand hyperhidrosis.

6. Research and development of new technologies for lung cancer diagnosis and screening;

7. Research on the pathogenic mechanism and immune/targeted therapy for lung cancer;

8. Basic and clinical research on esophageal cancer. 

 

[Achievement of Research]

The department has undertaken a number of projects, such as National Natural Science Foundation projects, provincial Key Research and Development projects, and provincial Natural Science Foundation projects. More than thirty academic papers have been published in total. Additionally, the academic leader Dr. He of the department serves as an editorial board member of the international journal Translational Lung Cancer Research and the domestic journal Journal of Robotic Surgery.
